Good Work Is Good For You

Empowering conversations: the One for the Blokes story
The creation of a workshop was initiated after a change in EAP provider in one workplace. The aim of the workshop was to normalise conversations around men's mental wellbeing. Over 10 years, our team addressed approximately 3500 individuals across Aotearoa and worked with over 20 organisations. In 2016, we were honoured with a national health and safety award for this impactful work.

From discomfort to disclosure: enabling open dialogue with support and privacy.
Creating a culture of help-seeking is important. Many clients initially struggle when attempting to discuss their mental health issues. To address this, a step by step wellbeing check-in was developed to facilitate gentle conversations and encourage help-seeking behaviours.
Normalising that we all experience lows and highs of life, enabled people to understand they were not alone.
One employee was struggling to reveal that she was unwell after a relationship break up and met with her manager in a private setting. The manager listened and supporting the employee with work adjustments and time away. The employee was able to seek help regarding her mental health, had some time off work and returned in a couple of weeks, having gained understanding about how she could better look after herself and ask for support without fear of judgement.

Turning distress into recovery: a personal account
In several instances, clients experiencing acute distress and suicidal ideation were provided with immediate referrals to counselling and one-on-one health coaching. One specific example involved an individual overwhelmed by a personal and distressing mistake. Following a supportive conversation, the person was referred to their GP, who provided significant assistance. After counselling support, time off and a period of gradual return to work, support from co-workers, the individual successfully fully resumed their duties and lifestyle and is now leading a full life.
